The Concert Series to End Hunger with Bluegrass Gospel Project
Barre, VT—Gene White assembled Bluegrass Gospel Project in 2001 for what was intended to be a one-time event. Seven years and four CDs later, Bluegrass Gospel Project is still performing concerts across New England and New York. During this time the band has raised thousands of dollars for many charitable organizations, including the Vermont Foodbank. And on October 4th, they will again do just that.
Bluegrass Gospel Project is playing for the fourth time in what the Vermont Foodbank calls the “Concert Series to End Hunger”—an ongoing series aimed at raising funds and educating individuals on the realities of hunger through music. Past performers in this series have included Woods Tea Company, CBLC, and members of Dave Matthews Band, Barenaked Ladies, N.E.R.D., and Guster.
The Bluegrass Gospel Project concert comes at a time when many Vermonters are feeling anxious about the approaching winter months. With the high costs of both food and heating fuel, nearly 40% of the clients served by the Vermont Foodbank will be forced to choose between keeping their houses warm or putting a meal on the table.
But the Vermont Foodbank still remains hopeful.
“The messages relayed through Bluegrass Gospel Project’s music vividly reflects personal journeys of many who find themselves in difficult situations,” said Chris Foster, Interim Co-Chief Executive Officer at the Vermont Foodbank. “The funds raised through this concert with Bluegrass Gospel Project will not only ensure food for hungry Vermonters, but will also restore hope in the homes of food insecure families and will send the message that their community will be there in times of need.”
The Concert Series to End Hunger with Bluegrass Gospel Project is Saturday, October 4th at the Stowe Community Church. A silent auction will begin at 6PM and will feature items from local restaurants, galleries, hotels and more. Showtime is 7PM. Tickets are $20 and available by calling 1-800-585-BANK. Special thanks to Trust Company of Vermont, National Life, and Prentiss Smith & Company, Inc. for supporting this event.
